Works included dredging 96,550m3 of silt from the channel of the Mahurangi River to restore access to Warkworth wharf for vessels in all tides. Dredging was undertaken utilising a long reach excavator mounted on a deck barge. The excavator was fitted with GPS machine control systems to avoid over excavation. Silt was removed from the river and offloaded onto land where the deleterious materials were placed on a dedicated nearby site bordering the river.
